Catch Bloomstone at the annual Pima County/El Tour Loop de Loop Sept 20

This will tell what a good lunch with cold burgers and fries (imagine that?) will lead to: a heck of a union among musicians for what looks like – and sounds like – a pretty good up-and-coming band.

That was the start of Bloomstone, a local band that will perform at the annual Pima County/El Tour Loop de Loop on Sept. 20.  They will play from 10 a.m. to noon at the southeast corner of Rillito Park Race Track. They will play for the after party of the ride.

“We’re looking forward to it,” said Grant Bloom, one of the founders and where the name of the band originated.

It wasn’t too long ago when Grant and Chris Pierce bonded over the meal “while performing on the Southern Arizona wedding circuit.”

“We were fortunate to all connect,” Grant said.

Almost two years later, they are doing gigs throughout Southern Arizona. Now, Loop de Loop is one of them.

They added drummer Rylande Dodge and fiddle player Joe Lessard and voila “they began to develop a unique blend of groove, soul and twang.”

Grant, who plays the guitar and sings, said it’s more like “a mix of R&B with a little bit of rock, folk and country.”

“We mostly do original stuff, it all depends on the gig,” he said.

This will be Bloomstone’s second time at an El Tour event, having been at the ride last year performing midmorning for those who were waiting around for the leaders.

“We really enjoyed it,” he said. “I’m grateful that we’ve formed a relationship (with El Tour). I’m glad TJ (Juskiewicz, El Tour’s executive director) found us to be a good fit for El Tour.”
