Buffalo Soldiers of Southern Arizona striving to make connections with the community

Organized and operated as an affiliate of the Ninth and Tenth (Horse) Cavalry Association, the Greater Southern Arizona Area Chapter, 9th and 10th (Horse) Cavalry Association (GSAAC) is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers of the United States.

Informing, educating, and engaging the community, especially the future leaders of our community, GSAAC reinforces the tremendous and often forgotten impact of these brave soldiers’ achievements past, present and future.

GSAAC is the lead Buffalo Soldier organization in creating a worthwhile memorial, honoring the Buffalo Soldier service in Arizona and the Southwest. Buffalo Soldiers played a prominent role in the Arizona territory becoming an official state. They were postmen, park rangers, police officers, and armed forces all rolled into one.

“I always look forward to any interaction with the community,” said Easter.Lee, president of GSAAC at the recent El Tour Loop de Loop. “That’s why we’re here. Yes, we do want to get riders, and we do want to promote El Tour, but most of all we want to have connections with the community.”

GSAAC is community oriented and knows nothing in life can be accomplished without togetherness. Events like El Tour help to bring non-profits and the people of Tucson together to enjoy a bicycle ride in late November.

“As we do this, we will be more refined as we go out for the ride for what our goals are,” Lee said. “However, the ultimate goal is to get as many people out here as we can, and to connect with as many community members as we possibly can.”
