Pop-Up Rebellion will, of course, pop up at El Tour and provide some singalong tunes
Brett Dooley is a cagey veteran of El Tour de Tucson – as a cyclist and a musician.
He’s ridden in the event a few times and has part of the entertainment as well. On Nov. 22, he’s going to forgo his bike for the microphone and make the El Tour de Tucson’s musical stage a place to be when the cyclists start to come in from their rides.
He and the others – Travis Owens, Allen El, Greg Ashbaugh – are part of Pop-Up Rebellion, a year-old band that’s been rocking all your favorite songs from the 1990s to now. As they say, “get ready to relive the glory days of eyeliner, skinny jeans and angst-filled lyrics with us.”

“We’re acting as a cover band for all these artists in the pop punk world,” Dooley said. “It’s more mainstream-sounding punk music.
He knows he’ll have a mixed crowd, many of the cyclists will stay and some will leave “because they have stuff to do. But those who stay will enjoy it.”
It’s about “nostalgia and unbridled energy” with their music.
The set list is ready. And it will be for three hours playing Green Day, Blink 182, Sum 41 and more.
“Two hours is pushing it for this kind of music because it’s pretty demanding,” Dooly said, “It’ll treat it like my workout. But it’s always fun to do it.”
As for the event?
“It’s a great ride,” he said. “It’s really fun. The route has changed a bit, but getting around is (cool). It has a little less of a race focus and more about a get-it-done thing with a bunch of other people. It’s a lot of fun.”
