College Bound AZ helps students make school easier, join them for El Tour

College Bound AZ began with one student and a community leader determined to make college more accessible. After helping a first-generation student navigate financial aid and prepare for college in 2009, the organization’s founder saw firsthand the barriers economically disadvantaged students can face when pursuing higher education.

That experience inspired College Bound AZ to launch its first program in 2010, beginning with eight students in Mesa and later expanding its support through high school and into college. Since then, the organization has helped thousands of students access the resources, guidance and encouragement they need to pursue higher education and create new opportunities for themselves and their families.

For College Bound AZ, creating opportunities for students has always been rooted in community support, a mission the organization will continue this year as one of El Tour de Tucson’s nonprofit partners. They have a variety of programs for high schoolers that are aspiring college students that need help on their journey such as:

• Bright Paths: Guide students and families through the college preparation and transition process while fostering a sense of community and belonging for college students with disabilities and are on the autism spectrum .
• RISE Scholars: 1-on-1 assistance senior year to ensure a financed college education with laptops and other scholarships gifted each year to meet students needs.
• Fueling Minds with Heart: Students who face food insecurity struggle to continue their education, College Bound AZ volunteers regularly deliver food and hygiene kit donations to multiple pantries, for the homeless, some of which are college students.

That’s just a small piece of what College Bound AZ has to offer! If you’re interested in learning more about their services or how to support them, please visit their website: https://collegeboundaz.o
