Where would El Tour de Tucson be without our Aid Stations? We don’t want to…
Buffalo Soldiers to be part of El Tour in 2024, help with student’s scholarship needs
It’s great to have a famed nonprofit like the Buffalo Soldiers 9th and 10th Horse Cavalry National Association as part of El Tour.
We’ve long admired what they do and what they represent.
They are a non-profit charity organization founded in 1995, organized and operated as an affiliate of the Ninth and Tenth (Horse) Cavalry Association. The GSAAC is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers of the United States by informing, educating, and engaging the community, especially Black youth, reinforcing the tremendous and often forgotten impact of these brave soldiers’ achievements in past, present, and future.
The Association is an official military unit representing one of the most famed, military units in the history of the American Armed Forces. The Buffalo Soldier played a prominent role in the Arizona Territory becoming a state. They were postmen, park rangers, police officers, and armed forces all rolled into one.
The GSAAC, through education, community service, and outreach programs in researching, interpreting, collecting displaying, and preserving historical artifacts and documents. One of our main thrusts is to offer encouragement to local high school seniors and community college transfer students to fulfill their educational goals by providing annual scholarships. To date, we have awarded approximately 23 scholarships, totaling approximately $22,000 to local Tucson students. The Buffalo Soldiers want to spread our message of hope and compassion. We believe that a single action can make a difference in the community, and that collective action can greatly impact the world. Through advocacy and outreach activities, our team works tirelessly each day to contribute their part to the greater good.
