Complete Flooring’s Morken: ‘no idea road cycling was so much fun’
Who knew?
Bob Morken didn’t … until he jumped on a road bicycle and had, well, a good time.
“I’ve been riding a mountain bike (all these years) and friends talked me into getting a road bike a few years ago; and it’s changed my world, it’s so much fun,” Morken said. “Mountain biking is a blast, but I had no idea road cycling was so much fun. It’s riding with friends (and so much more).”
Those friends are Team Cirrus (Cirrus Visual), who will once again ride in El Tour. It’s a good cycling group that Morken is now a part of.
He’s now setting his sights on cycling El Tour for the third time on Nov. 22. He’s also joined as great sponsor – Complete Flooring – of the event (more on that later).
Two years ago, he rode in the 63-mile event and did it again last year and finished with a personal best, “which wasn’t hard to do,” he said, laughing.
“I’m going for a new PR again,” he said.
What makes it fun?
It’s the people he rides with.
“When we are mountain biking, we stop (it’s then) we get to catch up with one another,” he said. “But when we are in these group road rides, we are chatting the whole time. And we cover so much mileage that you get to see a lot of Tucson. It’s very different but I like it a lot.”

It’s even better when he gets to ride with his daughters – Maya, Annika & Ronja – when he rides. Earlier this year, he rode with Maya in the Tour de Scottsdale and “had a blast.”
It’s all about the fun and togetherness, something that helped him decide to be a sponsor.
He’s owned Complete Flooring since 2017 and decided to get involved because it’s an iconic event.
He’s known about El Tour since 1983 “and it’s a huge draw for Tucson,” he said. “In my mind, it’s the largest community event held here. It’s such a great promotion of Tucson and I love Tucson. The biggest benefit for us who live here is we get to ride in it. But it’s an international and national stage for folks who get to play outside.
“If they aren’t from Tucson or are unfamiliar with it or experiencing it for the first time, then suddenly this might be a community they might consider moving to or where they could send their kids to college here. Or consider opening an office here or branch here. That’s why I love it.”
