Cycling: For the love of the ‘coolest father’ from a loving daughter

Camile Bauer – and El Tour de Tucson, for that matter – can thank Brian Dolan for getting her into cycling.

“I started cycling seven years ago as a promise to my dad who was recovering from prostate cancer,” said Bauer, who is based in Florida. “I promised him when he got back on the bike, we would ride a century together.”

In her first year, she rode 57 miles then in year two it was the century (100 miles) and since then they’ve ridden three more.

Promise kept.

And all because of Dolan being an avid cyclist in Tucson.

“Nothing beats finding a passion as an adult that you can share with your parent,” she said. “My dad is the coolest, most amazing person, and will always be my hero. El Tour has been a place for us to connect, and share our passion for cycling, and will be something I cherish forever.”

This year – come November 21 at the 43rd El Tour – she’ll be there with her friend Jess and her dad, who will be 82 years old come November 21. And, yes, he is cancer-free!

And, yes, the century.

And it’s always a “tribute to my dad” and she’ll also be riding for the Ronald McDonald House.

“This year’s El Tour de Tucson marks the sixth year my daughter will be riding with me,” Dolan said. “It’s always a great, long weekend, but riding with someone you’ve known since birth is way beyond that. It’s a rush! … I am the envy of all my friends.”

All for the love of cycling and a dedicated, loving daughter.
