The Cooper Center helps kids of all ages learn through outdoor adventures
The Cooper Center for Environmental Learning connects children and learners of all ages with the Sonoran Desert through immersive, education-based, outdoor adventures.
Earth Education is the process of helping people of all ages live more harmoniously with the natural world, and as an Environmental Learning Center, they follow the tenets of Earth Education, which connects visitors to our camp with our planet through meaningful educational programs and activities in the setting Sonoran Desert.
They build deep relationships with nature in a welcoming and inclusive environment, fostering a love and understanding of the natural world. The Cooper Center for Environmental Learning is an outdoor classroom that inspires participants to preserve the Sonoran Desert and live more lightly on the earth.
They also offer extended programs in earth education, provide classes and workshops to help prepare teachers, interns, and graduate students in environmental learning, and encourage doctoral students to conduct research on outdoor learning and sustainable practices.
The Cooper Center site is situated on 10 acres of pristine Sonoran desert land, seven miles west of downtown Tucson. The 12 buildings on the site include an office, kitchen, classroom, two materials storage buildings, six sleeping cabins, and a bathroom. The camp hosts field trips and outdoor classroom programs offering unforgettable nature experiences for students.
