Non-profit Giffords joins El Tour for the first time in 2025
Founded by former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and Senator Mark Kelly, GIFFORDS is on a mission to save numerous lives from gun violence. Over 46,000 people die from gun violence in the US every year. Guns are now the number one cause of death for children in this country.
Every American will know a victim of gun violence in their lifetime at some point or another. This is the unfortunate new reality, but it doesn’t have to be this way.
With universal background checks and community based violence intervention methods, GIFFORDS know that there are proven solutions that will make our country safer.
GIFFORDS is daring to dream what a future free from gun violence looks like. With hard work and belief in a better future, this crisis is going to end, and it starts by doing it together. It starts when nonprofits like GIFFORDS team up with events like El Tour to spread awareness.
Giffords will be part of El Tour for the first time this year.
“This is us trying to be here in Arizona and with El Tour because Gabby loves biking and she rides in El Tour every year,” executive assistant Kelsey Rivera said. “It’s just another way that we can get our name out there and then let people know that we’re here in Arizona and we’re trying to do more to prevent gun violence in local communities.”
Even though Gabby Giffords is a regular cyclist in El Tour, this is the first year that the organization is partnering with El Tour.
“We are really excited to finally be working with El Tour,” she said. “The goal is to get as many people as possible to sign up and ride with us.”
