Beads of Courage, a staple at El Tour returns once again

For some, an act of courage means crossing the finish line. For children facing serious illness, it can mean simply making it through another day of treatment. This year, Beads of Courage will once again bring those two kinds of courage together as a charity partner of El Tour de Tucson.

Founded in Tucson in 2005, Beads of Courage supports children and teens coping with serious illness through arts-in-medicine programs that help honor and document their medical journeys.

What began in Tucson has grown into a global organization partnering with more than 400 hospitals worldwide.

Through its Carry a Bead program, El Tour participants can turn their own acts of courage, whether riding in the race, hiking a mountain or doing something meaningful in their community, into encouragement for a child facing serious illness.

Participants return a bead with a message of hope that will be delivered to Beads of Courage children in Tucson and around the world.

This year, every act of courage can become a reminder to a child that they are not facing their journey alone.
