Salvation Army Tucson: Joining El Tour de Tucson ‘very much appreciated’
Being asked by El Tour de Tucson to be one of the non-profit organizations to benefit from this year’s “pedaling with purpose” charity ride was both unexpected and very much appreciated.
The Salvation Army Tucson looks forward to the exposure of being surrounded by other non-profits in our community, as well as receiving donations from the proceeds of El Tour de Tucson, the 41st must-ride cycling event for fundraising and philanthropy. For riders, it’s important to support something that matters, and they can do it while doing what they love.
El Tour de Tucson started its tradition in 1983, and it’s the longest-running event of its kind in Arizona. With over 9,000 cyclists participating in the popular event, many of them will ride for non-profits helping to raise funds for their respective organizations. Since the beginning, nearly $121 million has been raised for local and international charitable organizations, making this a must-needed and much-appreciated Tucson event.

Since riders come from all over the world, The Salvation Army can target the areas where the armies are located to inform the people about El Tour de Tucson and that they can ride for The Salvation Army to help fuel its mission. Founded in 1865, The Salvation Army has earned a reputation for impactful service across the globe. In Tucson alone, they provided vital assistance to over 22,000 individuals last year through a comprehensive range of programs, including:
- Emergency food assistance
- Shelter and clothing for the homeless
- Financial aid for rent and utilities
- Disaster relief and support
- Heat and cold weather refuge
- Senior citizen engagement and outreach
- Educational and recreational opportunities for underprivileged youth
- Holiday assistance
- Emotional and social support services
The Salvation Army Tucson has also been accepted to be a recipient of bikes to be given to families during its Christmas Distribution Event in December 2024. The El Tour Bikes for Change equipped 3,000 Tucson under-served youth in 2023 with bikes, helmets, locks, and lights. Their motto of changing lives one bicycle at a time is near and dear to The Salvation Army’s heart. We were able to give 150 bikes to many of the families during the Christmas event, and with more bikes because of El Tucson’s kindness, we’ll be able to see even more smiles!
