Beads of Courage holding a Summer Challenge to stay fit and help kids

Here at El Tour de Tucson we love our non-profit partners. This summer, Beads of Courage is holding a great event to stay in shape while helping courageous kids with their lives.

You can walk, run, climb hills, swim laps or ride a bike. Achieve your 100-mile goal and raise $100 for the cause and you’ve completed the Beads of Courage Summer Challenge.

It all starts June 21 and ends Sept. 22.

You can register for the BOC Challenge for $25 and receive a a Carry a Bead kit, and BOC logo items to support you during the challenge. Those who complete 100 miles and raise a minimum of $100, will qualify to receive the Team Beads of Courage Summer Challenge finisher gifts upon completion – a medal and and Dri-Fit shirt. Special prizes will be awarded to those who exceed goals!

“By hosting our first #SummerChallenge, Beads of Courage hopes supporters everywhere can MAKE THEIR MILES MATTER MORE by getting outside in honor of a young patient who can’t,” said Jacob Carter, Beads of Courage – Community Engagement Manager. “All participants are helping to serve the mission of Beads of Courage in multiple ways: First, to raise awareness for our programs and the Narrative Medicine we provide to children and teens coping with serious illness. Second, to raise badly needed funds for those programs. Third, and most importantly, each person who joins the Summer Challenge provides program materials in the form of the bead they return at the end of the summer. That bead symbolizes 100-plus miles of adventure and 100-plus miles of support. A patient in the hospital receives this bead, and its story is then added to their story. This process – the end point of a program we call “Carry a Bead” – provides a wonderful boost of encouragement and support to children and teens on particularly tough treatment days.”
