El Tour de Tucson wins USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Best Road Cycling Events

TUCSON, Arizona (April 7, 2023) – El Tour de Tucson is No.1!

USA Today has named El Tour de Tucson as the best road cycling event for 2023 in its just-released 10Best Readers’ Choice poll.

“El Tour de Tucson is a ride that’s been a part of the Tucson community for decades,” USA Today announced on Friday. “It has route options for cyclists of all skill levels, and all routes start and end at or near the Tucson Convention Center. Options include The Century (102 miles), The Metric (62 miles), The Half Metric Century (32 miles) and the Fun Rides.”

El Tour beat out rides Ragbrai (Iowa), Mount Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hill Climb (New Hampshire) and Wilmington Grand Prix (Delaware) among others from across the country.

“We are very proud of this award because it was the people who voted for it and think so highly of it,” said TJ Juskiewicz, El Tour’s executive director. “Now the country and cyclists worldwide know what we’ve always known: El Tour de Tucson is a destination ride for everyone in the family and of all abilities. This is quite an accomplishment for Tucson, the best place to cycle year-round.”

El Tour de Tucson joins the Chuck Huckelberry Loop as USA Today award winners. The Loop is a two-time winner of the best recreational trail in the United States.

El Tour will be celebrating 40 years of cycling in Southern Arizona on Nov. 18, 2023 when were are expecting more than 7,500 cyclist from all over the world. Since its inception, more than 200,000 cyclists have ridden in El Tour. El Tour is a charitable event and has helped raise more than $100 million for more than 100 local and national charities.

“At its core that’s what El Tour strives to be – not only a great event but a driving force to help non-profits raise money for their causes,” Juskiewicz said. “We’ve long said El Tour is about charity, community, health and wellness. They all go hand-in-hand when it comes to building awareness for a bike ride that has been part of the Tucson community coming on four decades.”

This year – for the third year – Banner – University Medicine will be El Tour’s title sponsor. They’ve been great partners the last couple of years, and we are looking forward to continued success together.

The 40th El Tour de Tucson, Arizona’s largest cycling event and one of the largest cycling events in the United States, is produced and directed by Perimeter Bicycling Association of America, Inc. and is scheduled for November 18, 2023. Cyclists of all ages and abilities may ride 102, 62 or 32 miles or a Fun Ride of 3 and 1 miles. The 40th El Tour is projected to raise more than $5 million for nearly 50 non-profit agencies.
