Where would El Tour de Tucson be without our Aid Stations? We don’t want to…
Cemex’s Safer Roads Together Program educates road users like cyclists and pedestrians on how to share the road safely with large vehicles
Safety is paramount at the El Tour de Tucson cyclist event.
As one of the main sponsors, Cemex not only has a booth and cyclist’s racing in the event but they also will be promoting their “Safer Roads Together” program. Safety is the number one priority for the company’s employees and local communities and the program allows Cemex to promote public safety at events such as this one. It’s a key reason why Cemex participates in cycling events throughout the country.
“Cemex’s Safer Roads Together Program educates road users like cyclists and pedestrians on how to share the road safely with large vehicles,” said Deborah Wells, Director, Public Affairs, Communications & Social Impact. “It offers hands-on learning by letting the public sit in the driver’s seat to understand truck safety features and visibility. By participating in events like El Tour de Tucson, Cemex shares tips such as wearing reflective clothing, making eye contact with drivers, and following traffic laws. The team values Tucson’s spirit of promoting health, fitness, charities, and community engagement through such events.”

Well, they are back at El Tour de Tucson for 2024, prominently displaying their big-and-bold, red and blue Cemex mixer-truck at their Expo booth. Cemex will also be hosting a lively aid station along the route, where there will be a DJ, a hot dog stand, a personal cheering section, a ready-mix truck, plus all the necessary snacks & pickle juice to fuel the riders.
This is Cemex’s third year at the event and second for 2024, having been part of the 2024 Tour de Scottsdale in the spring.
“Cemex values strong community partnerships,” Wells said. “Cemex’s longstanding support of events like El Tour de Scottsdale, and Tucson showcases our commitment to promoting our Safer Roads Together program and fostering a better future for our communities, customers, and employees. This event has become especially meaningful to our team, bringing employees together year after year, with many returning as volunteers and others as cyclist participants.”
Cemex will have 10 cyclists participating in the race this year.
“The Safer Roads Together program is a national initiative within Cemex to promote safety within our communities,” Wells said. “Our Southwest region hosts several Safer Roads Together events throughout the state each year including the El Tour event series.”
She added: “There is a strong cycling community within Cemex including many from our Southwest region. Not only our Regional President, David Nabavi, but also other executive regional leaders are avid cyclists encouraging participation from the employees and our customers that boasts for friendly competition. Cemex also encourages health and wellness for our employees and cycling is a wonderful way to achieve fitness goals.”
Be on the lookout for Cemex at the Expo and the route – and enjoy the ride!
